This extremely slim woman in her early-30s who stands at 170 cm and weighing just 49 kg, comes to Dr Arthur Tjandra of Elixir de Vie for liposuction of the stubborn fat in her lower abdomen, and fat injection into her sunken temples and cheeks/mid-face to rejuvenate her look. Although she is very slim, Dr Arthur Tjandra of Elixir de Vie shows that she may in fact, benefit from liposuction on many areas of her body, to sculpt her body into a much more desirable shape. Many people think that liposuction surgery is for overweight and obese people. It is not! Liposuction surgery is a sculpting tool to sculpt the body of a person who is already within his/her ideal range of weight! An overweight or obese person should exercise and go on a diet to lose weight. We have shown that even on the slimmest patients, it is possible to aspirate 2-3 liters of fat from the thighs alone! However, 2 liters is the safe limit Dr Arthur Tjandra of Elixir de Vie will aspirate in each session of liposuction. An overweight or obese person who has 5 liters of fat in his/her thighs may not see any difference even after removal of just 2 liters of fat! These patients may end up as unhappy patients who vent their unhappiness on the internet simply because they have unrealistic expectation! They cannot accept the fact that while someone who has just 2 liters of fat may obtain good result after removal of 2 liters of fat, they need 3 sessions of surgery to obtain the same result!

But, why do a lot of surgeons turn down slim patients who would like to get liposuction surgery done? It is because it is much more difficult to perform liposuction on a slim person compared to a fat person, because there is not much room for error. The thinner the fat layer is, the less room there is for error, as even the slightest over-suctioning, under-suctioning, uneven-suctioning, burns and scars will immediately show on the surface of the skin. We have shown the case of this slim Chinese patient who had her abdominal liposuction done in Shanghai and ended up with scarred abdomen for the rest of her life! Had she been a fatter person, all the burns inflicted in the deep fat layer would not have shown up on the skin.
