Frequently-Asked Questions (FAQs)
Initially, Dr Arthur Tjandra was the jack of all trades, performing all sorts of cosmetic surgeries from head to toes. By mid-2010s, however, as he became more and more well-known worldwide in liposuction and fat grafting, he decided to focus on only and become the master of liposuction and fat grafting procedures. He even abandoned Asian upper blepharoplasty (double eye lid surgery), which he was very famous for, back in the late 2000s and early 2010s, and struck it from his armamentarium altogether, along with a dozen other surgeries which he used to regularly perform. From mid-2010s onwards, he has been performing nothing but liposuction and fat grafting surgeries, day in and day out. He figured that in order to be the best, he had to focus on only 1 or 2 surgeries, instead of becoming the jack of all trades, but master of none.
Due to wide spread practice of photo editing (Photoshop) of before and after cosmetic surgery photographs in the cosmetic surgery industry, where more than 90% of surgeons show their results in still photo format, Dr Arthur Tjandra took the initiative to publish videos on YouTube, instead. From July 2013 to November 2016, Dr Arthur Tjandra published more than 3,000 liposuction and fat grafting videos on his YouTube channel. However, in November 2016, YouTube abruptly removed some 1,000 videos and terminated his account. It was reinstated a month after he made an appeal, only to be permanently terminated on 28th September 2020, due to intense lobbying by many stakeholders whose businesses are affected by Dr Arthur Tjandra’s YouTube channel. YouTube determines that it must terminate our channel at all costs after intense lobbing by these stakeholders for many years, because this channel was already the 5th most popular Singapore YouTube channel, in August 2020. As we added some 50,000 subscribers and raked in more than 30 million views between 1st and 28th September 2020, YouTube has to act quickly and close this channel before September ranking is released end of the month. It is highly likely that Elixir de Vie channel would be the most popular Singapore YouTube channel in September 2020, if the channel was not terminated before statistics were tabulated and ranking was released!
This video blog (Vlog) was launched in December 2016 as an alternative platform for Dr Arthur Tjandra‘s videos. This Vlog contains case studies of cosmetic surgeries performed by Dr Arthur Tjandra, mostly liposuction and autologous fat transfer surgeries. Please scroll all the way down to the bottom of this page to see the drop-down list of videos/cases we have published, based on anatomical regions.
Most of our patients came to us for an average 3 sessions of liposuction and/or fat grafting procedures, performed on an average of 4 different anatomical regions per patient. We are currently in the process of summarizing all case studies published on this Vlog and our YouTube channel, to streamline the navigation and viewing process:
1. I would like to get Autologous Fat Grafting Breasts Augmentation. Could you tell me more?
Dr Arthur Tjandra of Elixir de Vie was the first surgeon to start performing autologous fat grafting breasts augmentation in South East Asia, back in 2008. Other surgeons in the region followed suit from early 2010s onward, after observing the good results he published on his website as case studies. …………………………READ MORE
2. I heard Dr Arthur Tjandra performs awake syringe liposuction under local anesthesia. What is that? How is it different from most surgeons?
Dr Arthur Tjandra of Elixir de Vie performs liposuction with just a plastic syringe, an outdated method which was practiced back in the 1980s and 1990s, which hardly any surgeon is trained to perform anymore these days. Machines have taken over syringe work since the early 2000s. However, he has explained in great detail why “back to basics” may still be the best and safest method in liposuction, with the highest satisfaction rates and lowest risk of complications: ……….READ MORE
3. What are tumescent, traditional, high-definition, 3D, 4D, 360, SAL, PAL and syringe liposuction? Are they all the same?
All these terms are extremely confusing and sometimes intentionally used to confuse prospective patients.
When Dr Arthur Tjandra popularized syringe liposuction back in the mid-2000s – after having learned it from Professor Fong Poh Him and Dr Pierre Fournier, the fathers of modern liposuction – touting it as the oldest method of performing liposuction, but the safest; many plastic surgeons around the region started telling their patients that they too, were doing traditional liposuction. ………………..READ MORE
4. Why is there a need for a video blog (Vlog)?
Because photos can be, and as a matter of fact, often edited! Do you have any idea how many surgeons actually “Photoshop” their before and after photos? There are many professional photo editors who offer Photoshop services to cosmetic surgery clinics. Below is one of the many emails we received from one of them. Go to YouTube and try to find videos showing results of cosmetic surgeries. There are plenty of videos out there. But, there is hardly any video which shows real video-recording of the body from all angles like what we do on our YouTube channel! There are plenty of videos showing results of liposuction, but the results are shown in still pictures, not in video format. In other words, the results are showed in video slide show. What difference is this from showing photographs? ………..READ MORE
4. I would like to get liposuction and fat grafting done. I can go to any plastic surgeon, right? As long as he is “board-certified” the result will be good, no?
There is a misconception that plastic surgery is identical to cosmetic surgery. Cosmetic surgery is but one very small component (less than 5%) of plastic surgery training. The term “plastic surgery” and “cosmetic/aesthetic surgery” cannot and should not be used interchangeably. As a matter of fact, a board-certified plastic surgeon may not even have the necessary exposure and training to be a good cosmetic surgeon. ………..READ MORE
When you choose a plastic surgeon to perform your autologous fat grafting breasts augmentation, you don’t really care if he has performed 10,000 rhinoplasty surgeries in the last 10 years. What you want to know is how many fat grafting breasts augmentation he has performed in the last 1 year, what the outcomes are, and how many complications he has. It is best if he could show pictures. But if he could show videos, that’s the best! This Vlog is created exactly to serve these purposes. This Vlog is created to showcase Dr Arthur Tjandra’s works in mostly liposuction and autologous fat grafting surgeries, as well as “Barbie Chee-Bye-plasty“.
5. You keep bragging you have performed thousands of liposuction and fat grafting surgeries. Where is the evidence?
From 2007 to 2020, Dr Arthur Tjandra has performed more than 10,000 liposuction and autologous fat transfer procedures. Well, anyone can brag about having performed thousands or tens of thousands of surgeries, but Dr Arthur Tjandra also provides evidence of his works! He has published approximately 5,000 pictures on Elixir de Vie official website from 2008 to 2011, and 3,000 videos on Elixir de Vie YouTube channel from 2013 to 2016, and more than 5,000 videos on this Vlog, from Dec 2016 till Dec 2019. ……….READ MORE
6. Are you even “qualified”? Can I see your diplomas?
To learn about Dr Arthur Tjandra‘s academic qualifications, you may visit our official website. You may even examine all his diplomas, one by one, on his Linkedin account. But, who really cares about paper qualifications? Academic qualifications are important when one is fresh out of school trying to look for a job. A surgeon who does not have a track record, and fresh out of his residency training, will have to fall on his paper qualifications to convince a patient to get surgeries done by him. A confident surgeon with proven track records will ask prospective patients to do their own research to study his track records. When you look for a lawyer to fight a case in court, you do not look for one with the highest GPA and attended an Ivy League law school, but without track records, do you? You look for one with the best track records, winning the most cases in courts, regardless of what paper qualification he has, don’t you? ………..READ MORE
7. What is/are your specialty(ies)?
8. I can’t stand your constant bragging. Show me evidence of your works!
When Dr Arthur Tjandra finally published more than 5000 photographs of before and after liposuction surgeries on his website in early 2010s, followed by another 3000 videos on his YouTube channel by mid-2010s, he took the world by storm! He quickly became a sensation! A lot of people suddenly felt threatened by the existence of his photos, but especially the videos! It is the first time in the world, a surgeon is being so transparent! Dr Arthur Tjandra of Elixir de Vie takes videos during every single stage of his surgeries, from the moment he does pre-operative marking, until the completion of the surgeries, as well as follow-up videos taken months and years later, when patients return for other procedures or subsequent surgeries. ………..READ MORE
9. Why does YouTube terminate your channel?
There are 3 main reasons, but mostly because the liposuction industry has been intensely lobbying YouTube to terminate our channel. This is because they do not want prospective patients to learn that liposuction can be performed with a cheap 2-dollar syringe! Not only can liposuction be performed with just a $2 plastic syringe, but plastic syringe can achieve much better result than, and can even be used to correct liposuction result performed with expensive liposuction devices which cost hundreds of thousand of dollars! It all depends on the skill of the surgeon!………..READ MORE
Disclaimer: Elixir de Vie does NOT accept Indonesians as patients! Elixir de Vie does NOT offer its services to Indonesians. This blog is not meant for Indonesians. If you are Indonesian, we respectfully request you to leave this site now!
The bottom line is very clear, as what the preachers have preached in the videos. Due to the sensitive issue of cosmetic surgery, and in view of recent developments in Indonesia, Elixir de Vie Indonesia has ceased its operation since 1 January 2017, and has been re-branded as Elixir de Vie Singapore. All inquiries should now be directed to Elixir de Vie Singapore. Just like its predecessor, Elixir de Vie Singapore does NOT offer its services to Indonesians.
Patients of other nationalities should disclose to us if their religion forbids them from getting cosmetic surgeries done on themselves, so that we can refuse to accept them as patients, or cancel their surgeries, if a booking for surgery has already been made. The last thing you want is to get imprisoned or caned!
At Elixir de Vie, we adopt “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” (DADT) policy. We cannot be expected to play the role of a moral police. If no such disclosure is made, we cannot be held responsible should your religious chief finds out about your surgery!
Moreover, our surgeon is a Buddhist. And the last time we heard, cosmetic surgery is not forbidden in Buddhism! Neither is a Buddhist surgeon forbidden from performing cosmetic surgeries on a Buddhist patient.
Professor Tommy Koh says it rightly, “Singapore is a secular state by choice. Our laws are a living document that is geared to move with time and public sentiments, not to be dictated by any religion“.
Finally, to those religious extremists out there, who think they are moral police and decide what people who do not even share the same belief as them, can or cannot do to their own bodies, what people can or cannot see and watch on the internet, if you feel disturbed by our blog and videos, instead of keep coming to our clinic to extort money from us, please appeal to the authorities to block YouTube and this blog in Indonesia! You may even want to visit YouTube office to extort money from them, instead. After all, they are much wealthier than us! If you think that what we do is illegal, because we change what God has created, please get the Ministry of Health to shut us down! This Vlog is NOT meant for you! We do NOT even want you here! It is meant for medical professionals! If you are not a medical professional, please LEAVE NOW!!!!!!!
