Patient No. 445: Abdominal liposuction on a former Indian beauty queen

IMG_6151

This former beauty queen from India who is in her mid-20s comes to Dr Arthur Tjandra of Elixir de Vie for abdominal liposuction. She was advised by her Indian surgeons that there was not fat in her tummy for them to aspirate. As a matter of fact, they told her that she was too skinny! This is understandable, because in India, tummy fat in women is considered sexy. In fact belly dancers are required to have some fat in their tummy, so that they can “shake” their fat when they dance. For the same reason, granny buttocks and thick thunder thighs may be considered sexy in some cultures and societies. Just look at J Lo! It is also the same issue with double and triple chins which are considered desirable in Indonesia, Malaysia and China. As a matter of fact, many future mothers-in-law choose their prospective daughters-in-law based on how thick their double or triple chins are! They believe that the future of their sons are somehow directly correlated with the thickness of double or triple chins of their future spouses! As the saying goes…..Beauty is in the eyes of the beholders.
