This 25-year-old Chinese Singaporean flight attendant had arms liposuction done in Singapore 6 months before coming to Medan to look for Dr Arthur Tjandra of Elixir de Vie for abdominal liposuction. When he first started Elixir de Vie in 2008, he charged only SGD 150 per area of liposuction. The average liposuction fee in Singapore back then was SGD 2,500 to 3,000. Considering that while he counts right and left arms as one area, while other surgeons count right and left as two areas, his liposuction fee was only SGD 75 per area back in 2008! Yes, you read that right! It cost only SGD 75 to get liposuction done on your both arms back in 2008! But, there was barely any taker at all back then. Most people think, “There must be something wrong with this surgeon if he charges so little”. That was why Dr Arthur Tjandra of Elixir de Vie started hiking his surgery fees, initially annually, and eventually every 3 months, just before Covid-19 hit. As expected, patients started coming to him only when he was charging 10 times more than what he initially charged when he started Elixir de Vie. When Covid-19 hit, he had to pause the fee hike. But, when the economy catches up again, he will resume the fee hike, provided Covid-19 restrictions are lifted and the economy recovers before he retires. He plans to retire at 50.
