Immediately after her thighs liposuction, this patient asked Dr Arthur Tjandra of Elixir de Vie, “Are you sure you really performed liposuction on all areas of my thighs? Why don’t I feel any pain at all? Why can I walk normally?” Apparently, she was under the impression that she was supposed to have a lot of pain and be wheelchair-bound after thighs liposuction, from the liposuction reviews she read on the internet.
Five days later, she could not restrain herself anymore when she saw that all the bruises were fading away and she did not feel any pain at all without even taking any pain killer! She repeated her questions: “Are you sure you have performed liposuction on me? Why is there not much bruising? Why don’t I feel any pain at all?”
Dr Arthur Tjandra of Elixir de Vie asked her to watch the video taken right after her thighs liposuction and looked at the amount of fat taken out from her thighs. He also asked her to watch all videos taken at every single step of the surgery, from beginning till the end to see if he had indeed performed liposuction on all areas of her thighs. The reason why there is not much bruises and pain is because Dr Arthur Tjandra of Elixir de Vie performs liposuction with a micro-cannula which measures just 2 to 3 millimeter in diameter, with suction created with just a small plastic syringe! Other surgeons use a combination of big cannulas which measure 1 to 1.5 centimeter in diameter, ultrasound heat to melt fat (which also causes burns to all surrounding tissue) and aspirate fat with powered suctioning. All these cause a lot of trauma, hence a lot of bruising, swelling and pain.
To illustrate his point, Dr Arthur Tjandra of Elixir de Vie showed a video taken of a local patient who went to Penang for abdominal liposuction 2 weeks before coming to see him with complaint of severe abdominal pain which prevented her from even walking straight. She had complication of hematoma in her abdomen. She was in so much distress 2 weeks after liposuction. Her bruises were so much worse, 2 weeks after liposuction, compared to this patient’s bruises which were fading away within 5 days post-operatively. Dr Arthur Tjandra of Elixir de Vie finally advised this patient that if she preferred more bruises, as well as longer lasting bruises, more pain and more swelling, she should look for another surgeon who used powerful device to perform liposuction, instead of just a plastic syringe. With syringe technique you do not expect much trauma. Hence, there will not be much bruises and pain at all. Unfortunately, some patients prefer more pain and bruises. Very strange, indeed!
