This is a perfect case study to show that weight loss which results from exercise and dieting cannot spot reduce, and cannot change your genetically pre-determined body shape.

This Japanese girl in her late-20s came to Dr Arthur Tjandra of Elixir de Vie for left thigh liposuction 3 months ago. Although it is still far from full recovery, which normally takes at least 6 months, she is so ecstatic with the result, that she now returns for her second session. During this second session, just like the previous session, she is getting only left side of the body done.

When she came for her first session 3 months ago, she weighed 50 kg. She now weighs only 42 kg! But, despite having lost so much weight, one can see that she still benefits a lot with liposuction. Unfortunately, we cannot spot reduce with dieting and exercise. The only way to spot-reduce is to perform liposuction to target pockets of fat which we do not like. Despite having lost 8 kg of weight, one can see that her right thigh still appears thick, her right buttock is still sagging and her right knee is still bulging.

One cannot order one’s body to burn fat from only specific areas when one exercises and goes on diet. The only way to remove localized, targeted fat permanently, and sculpt the body, is through liposuction. When one goes on diet and exercises, the fat cells do not miraculously disappear. They just shrink in size. At a point when the calories balance tip the other way, with more calories intake than output, the shrunken fat cells grow big again. That is why fad diets do not work! You cannot drink protein shake or cucumber juice and eat nothing else for the rest of your life. Once you give up fad diets, your shrunken fat cells grow bigger again! To permanently remove those fat cells, one has to physically take them out from one’s body through liposuction.
